Madison Artist Wes Thomas signing the 2018 art posters

For the past eight years, 5NINES has commissioned local area artists to create artwork for a poster given as a gift to our clients and partners.  This year’s theme for the poster was “Engage” and 11 artists submitted their art concepts for the final piece!

The winning artwork for 2018, was illustrated by Madison’s Wes Thomas. Wes’ work was chosen, in part due to the “old school” illustration and its hand drawn qualities, intricate detail, and thought-provoking features. The poster has an Alice in Wonderland theme with the White Rabbit entering a dimensional door looking at his mobile device instead of a pocket watch.

Supporting the community that 5NINES calls home is important to the company’s owners, all who grew up around Madison.

“We strongly believe in supporting our local artists,” said 5NINES co-founder Rylee Wedekind.  “And this is one way we can support the amazing creativity and vibrancy in Madison.”

This year, 250 hand-made, limited edition screen-prints were silk-screened by Screen Door Studio in Madison, WI. The artist-signed and numbered posters will be given to friends and customers of the company to promote accessible artwork.

An Artist reception will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 4-6 pm at the 5NINES office.  Customers and friends are invited to pick up their poster, meet Wes, see a gallery of his work and enjoy refreshments. PLease RSVP here:  http://5nines.com/art

If posters are still available after the Artist reception, 5NINES will take requests.  If you’d like your name added to the RESERVE list  give us your contact info here – https://5nines.com/art

About the Artist: Wes Thomas has been writing and illustrating professionally for over a decade. With the help of his long time agent, Wes spends most of his energy in the children’s book market, but occasionally comes out of his bubble to create whimsical pen and ink illustrations such as this year’s poster.  See more of his illustration at his website – https://www.oldschoolillustrator.com/
