5NINES wishes you and yours a wonderful holiday season and a prosperous New Year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers, colleagues and business partners for your trust and loyalty throughout the year. At 5NINES we are constantly striving to provide excellent service and continuous support to our community. Here are our five top cybersecurity tips to keep you protected during the festive season.

  1. SHIELD WITH TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION

Today’s news included another data breach story that could have been easily prevented. One simple measure called Two-Factor Authentication (or MFA) adds an additional layer of security. It could be by one-time code, an app, secret password, in addition to your regular login information. In case of an unauthorized attempt, an alert can be sent by text message or email. Ask us for a demo!

  1. STAY SECURE AT WORK

Cyber criminals use distraction of the holiday season to target your employees and colleagues. It can be an email that appears to be from your supervisor or finance department that contains a malicious link. “These routine actions can be what exposes a computer or an entire network to a ransomware attack, data breach, or another crime,” said 5NINES Cyber Security Specialist, Matt Frost. We encourage you to follow our 10 cybersecurity actions to avoid hacker’s attacks at work.

  1. SHOP SMART WITH ONLINE PURCHASES

Global organizations encountered a 57.5% increase in attempted attacks during the holiday shopping season. We advise you to be very attentive to the websites you visit, and to the emails and phone calls you receive. Making sure your data is encrypted, using only your credit card and checking your bank statements are the minimum requirements you can take to protect yourself. Learn more on shopping tips

  1. STAY PROTECTED WHILE TRAVELING

Many of us travel with a company provided laptop or use personal phones to access business information. Twenty-five percent of IT thefts happen in cars or public transportation. Before your trip make sure to backup all information such as contacts, financial data and files to another device or the cloud. At the airport be sure to connect to legitimate and secure networks. Guard your devices at all times.
